Beech Forest Ecosystem
UnrealEngine 5
How can we help you: Discord Channel
Beech Forest Ecosystem is based on the "Temperate Broadleaf Forest" biomes. Beech Forest density is made up of Beech Trees, Ferns, Butterburs (Petasites hybridus) and Rhododendrons.
This package has been developed specifically for UnrealEngine5. New technology Lumen are used in the project.
This package was created by scanning the full ecosystem. 3D Assets are scanned according to the world scale and the PBR is calibrate. Each 3D Assets comes with meticulously optimized polygone, UVs and LODs. Atlases were calculated using 120 different LED light sources and Surface scans baked over 200 million polygons. This is a complete kit, designed specifically for creating huge, yet detailed environments in your UnrealEngine 5 project.
You can see all Beech Forest scans here: Beech Forest Scans

DOCUMENTATION:
Basic UnrealEngine documentation:
3- Materials
4- Lumen Global Illumination and Reflections
Unreal Engine 5 Setup:
- Unreal Engine 5 new features require DX12 to be enabled.
- Our products use the default UE5 setup, similar to UE4 (DX11). If you want to use Nanite, Lumen and VT Shadows you have to start the engine in DX12 mode. Also make sure you have the required Hardware to run the new features.
- Make sure to read through Epics online documentation on Unreal Engine 5.
Nanite Setup:
- For static meshes, like rocks or debris, you can turn on Nanite. Simply find the "Assets" in the content browser, "select" them, "right mouse button" and choose "Enable Nanite" from the context menu.
Lumen Setup:
- You can turn on Lumen in the "Projects Settings" under "Engine/Rendering", for "Global Illumination" set it to "Lumen". Make sure you also set in the "Lumen" section to use the "Global Tracing".
IMPORTANT INFORMATION: The problem of darkness in the overall view ( backface of the leaves. ) will be fixed with next updates to UE5.
(NOTE: Don't use Hardware Ray Tracing, this doesn't support foliage yet, causes flickering and worse performance. It's best to leave it to the UE5 default of software tracing for better quality and performance.)
BEECH FOREST NOTES
Wetness Level
If you are starting a new map, you should adjust the wetness level according to the water on your map. If you do not do this, the surfaces of trees and plants will remain undesirably wet.
For this you have to edit the MF_Wetness_Level function in SL_Beech_Forest / Materials.
Landscape Material
There are 5 layers in the landscape. There are 10 "Grass Types" connected to 5 layers. All plants lay spawned from grass types.
Red: Paint Layers
Green: Slope Layers
Blue: Grass Types
Pink: Wetness Level
